A note: From time to time we will be covering current events in addition to our regular podcasts on the economy. This podcast is primarily designed for educators and we believe that current events are an important part of any class. We hope that by interviewing experts we might gain insight about political and economic events that are happening in the world right now. We also hope that these interviews can provide some clarity when preparing lessons. Please let us know how we are doing! Thank you.

The 2008 Crisis Lives On:The 2008 financial crisis reshaped the economic and political landscape of the U.S. in profound ways. One result of the crisis was the emergence of the Tea Party, and in this episode Jon and Lev try to define what it was, and how it redefined the Republican party and, indeed, the republic.

"They were savage and bitter, especially the middle-aged and old...Their boredom becomes more and more terrible. They realize they've been tricked and burn with resentment...Nothing can ever be violent enough to make taut their slack minds and bodies."- The Day of the Locust, Nathanael West (1939)

Stimulus: A new New Deal?

The country needs and, unless I mistake its temper, the country demands bold, persistent experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it: If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something.

- Franklin D. Roosevelt, 1932

The 2008 Crisis Lives On:Jon and Lev discuss fiscal stimulus in the wake of the '08 crisis, compare FDR's New Deal to Obama's Recovery Act, and list as many 1930s NYC public works infrastructure projects as they can.

P.S. The audio sounds so much better! Thanks Timmy!
