Things You Can Do Today

Donate

GiveDirectly: GiveDirectly is the first — and largest — nonprofit that lets donors like you send money directly to the world’s poorest. We believe people living in poverty deserve the dignity to choose for themselves how best to improve their lives — cash enables that choice.

One Fair Wage: Because the federal tipped minimum wage is *still* just $2.13/hour, we're trying to raise $213,000 to give no-strings-attached cash assistance to tipped restaurant workers, delivery drivers, personal service workers and others affected by coronavirus and the economic downturn.  Your small donation will make a huge difference in the lives of tens of thousands of workers being hit hardest in this crisis.  We need your help.

RIP Medical Debt: RIP Medical Debt empowers donors to forgive billions in oppressive medical debt. We are dedicated to removing the burden of medical debt for individuals and families and veterans across America.

Partners In Health: Our mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care. By establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty, Partners In Health strives to achieve two overarching goals: to bring the benefits of modern medical science to those most in need of them and to serve as an antidote to despair.

Make The Road: Our model integrates four core strategies for concrete change that millions of families feel every day:

Legal and Survival Services to tackle discrimination, abuse and poverty;
Transformative Education to develop community members’ abilities to lead our organization, our movement, and society;
Community Organizing to transform the systems and power structures impacting our communities; and
Policy Innovation to rewrite unjust rules and make our democracy truly accountable to all of us.

Here is what they have been focusing on during the COVID-19 crisis

Restaurant Workers Community Foundation: The RCWF Board of Directors has approved directing funds raised during this crisis to be allocated in the following ways:

  • 50% FOR DIRECT RELIEF TO INDIVIDUAL RESTAURANT WORKERS

  • 25% FOR NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS SERVING RESTAURANT WORKERS IN CRISIS

  • 25% FOR ZERO-INTEREST LOANS FOR RESTAURANTS TO GET BACK UP AND RUNNING
